GMO Internet Group CEO Masatoshi Kumagai attributed a cyberattack affecting roughly 20 Japanese companies to the misuse of an autonomous AI penetration-testing tool called ARTEX, which exposed up to 26,739 servers and enabled unauthorized trades across more than 70 brokerages. Kumagai stated that internal security warnings about vulnerabilities in the breached cloud VPS service were not addressed quickly enough, and he has requested government assistance under Japan's active cyber defense powers to trace and neutralize the attackers.
