Nvidia hardware arrived in Texas this week to provide computational power for open model training. The delivery of 4,000 GB200 units to the Texas Advanced Computing Center establishes the Horizon TACC cluster as the largest academic supercomputer. This infrastructure allows researchers to develop AI models within a university setting using massive parallel processing.
The facility operates under the direction of Adam Klivans of the NSF Institute for Foundations of Machine Learning. Researchers will use the hardware at the Horizon TACC cluster to train open models, leveraging the GPU shipment to increase the scale of compute available for non-corporate AI research.
