A 26-year-old individual in China is suspected of orchestrating AI-powered cyberattacks on seven South Korean financial institutions, compromising the personal information of 68,000 banking customers, according to a cybersecurity firm. The intrusions, carried out using the Chinese open-source AI agent ARTEX, are described as among the first known AI-powered breaches of the global financial system, with South Korean police investigating and a financial watchdog identifying 19 IP addresses used in the attacks.
