The cloud provider has stopped requiring confidentiality agreements from municipal officials when negotiating the placement of its server farms across the US. Amazon ended the use of these non-disclosure agreements, which were a central flashpoint in local opposition to the growth of its computing facilities. This shift accompanies a detailed plan to spend more than $1 billion over a 5 year period on infrastructure and education in those host communities.

Funding will provide free community college degrees and trades training, as well as the construction of new roads, fire equipment, and affordable housing. Amazon will also pay for energy efficiency upgrades for schools and residences, which it estimates will save households about $700 per year on average. The company is implementing these changes to win local support as residents protest the electricity and water demands of AI server farms.
