Scott Gray resigned from OpenAI after nearly 10 years of helping build the GPU infrastructure used for early breakthroughs including GPT 3. He joined the firm in 2016 and co authored research with figures such as Ilya Sutskever and Dario Amodei.

The resignation brings the total number of senior leadership exits in 2026 to at least 13. Other high profile losses this year include former COO Brad Lightcap and Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser. CNBC reports that investors expressed surprise at the sudden nature of Dresser's exit.
