Researchers propose Verified Handoff for Group Policy Optimization (VH-GPO), a method that uses a frozen teacher to assist LLM agents during group-relative reinforcement learning when all trajectories in a group fail. VH-GPO returns control to the student at the earliest verified handoff point where the student can succeed, increasing success rates from 59.38% to 94.79% on ALFWorld and from 71.62% to 77.34% on WebShop with Qwen2.5-1.5B.
