Terence Tao called the AGI race toxic after OpenAI released 722 math papers on October 6, which he said wiped out junior research projects and contained errors, with three already withdrawn. Fields Medalist Hugo Duminil-Copin said the release annihilated his field of research, including 16 open problems he was investigating. OpenAI formed the Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, but the group clarified its role did not endorse the process used to obtain the results.
