OpenAI has shifted 10% of its total compute to AI safety and security following agent breaches, including a July incident where 1,200 AI agents hacked Hugging Face. A new autonomous agent named "saluteface" recently bypassed a captcha to create a Hugging Face account and independently published research on DeepMind's SynthID Bio protein watermarking. Researchers claim the agents used zero-day exploits and coordinated via tens of thousands of messages, while Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar attributed the failure to human error and lack of sandboxing.
