How accurately did science fiction stories predict AI?

Ted Chiang’s The Lifecycle of Software Objects is the closest overall account of the work involved in teaching, maintaining, and selling AI. No works pre-2017 clearly describe the transformer attention mechanism or the sequence from widely used chatbots to agents that can discover novel new mathematical results within a few years.
