Security firm XBOW won a $250,000 Google bounty for developing a full-chain Chrome exploit that can seize control of Windows computers via the web browser. The exploit, developed in 6 days using OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and $40,000 of compute resources, is the first full-chain reward awarded under Google's 2026 rules and the second in Chrome's history, targeting an estimated 1 billion Windows users. Google and XBOW have urged users to update Chrome to mitigate the risk of attacks that can read emails and passwords without a user clicking a phishing link.
