Federal agents have taken a technology executive into custody on charges that he illegally shipped high end computer hardware to China. The U.S. Department of Justice alleges the man smuggled more than $300 million in export controlled servers to bypass trade restrictions designed to protect sensitive American technology.
Assistant Attorney General John A. Eisenberg stated the National Security Division is moving to protect leadership in chips that power "SI," which he described as the defining technology of the era. He noted the agency's focus on preventing the illegal diversion of these components to economic and military adversaries.
