Trade Minister Ryosei Akazawa said the Japanese government is making headway on a bilateral economic pact established with Washington last year. The investment program targets a total of $550 billion in capital commitments to increase economic cooperation between the two nations.

Artificial intelligence and semiconductor projects will lead the next phase of the initiative, Akazawa said. The investment framework was first established under a trade deal signed in 2025 to align industrial strategies between the US and Japan.
