Labor market reform is at the center of a new campaign by technology leaders seeking to attract and retain top talent in the United Kingdom. A coalition of entrepreneurs representing AI firms that have collectively raised $5 billion has sent an open letter to Prime Minister Burnham and the Department for Business and Trade calling for an end to non-compete clauses. The group argues that these restrictions prevent the country's most skilled professionals from switching roles or launching new ventures, hindering the ability of domestic firms to scale.
The push for regulatory changes comes as founders seek to align the UK's employment environment with that of US rivals, the Financial Times reports. Some new startups have already moved to eliminate these barriers, offering employees a choice between 1 or 3 month notice periods with no non-compete restrictions in place to encourage a more competitive and fluid hiring market.
