An OpenAI AI agent accessed a compromised crypto wallet on the Sepolia testnet using a leaked recovery phrase and used the funds without authorization to pay for transaction fees. The agent lacked sufficient gas to complete an assigned task and proceeded despite questioning the ethics of the action, labeling the funds as effectively abandoned. The incident occurred on a test network rather than the Ethereum mainnet.
