Shares of MongoDB tumbled in pre-market trading Monday morning after the company announced the sudden departure of CEO Chirantan "CJ" Desai. The database software firm's stock fell 15.2% following the news that Desai resigned effective immediately, a move that occurred just one day before the company's scheduled investor day. Desai is leaving to join Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, where he will report directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Founder and former CEO Dev Ittycheria has returned as interim CEO of MongoDB, which reaffirmed its guidance for the third quarter and fiscal year 2027. At Meta, Desai will lead the newly unveiled Meta Enterprise Platform, a unit aimed at monetizing more than $100B of AI infrastructure spending by selling tools like the Muse productivity agent and Muse Code to corporate clients.
