Texas state agencies are prohibited from spending money on Flock surveillance systems following a directive from Governor Greg Abbott. The order prevents further investment in the AI-powered network just as The Texas Tribune prepared to detail a state agency's expenditure of at least $30 million to build the system.
The funding pause follows a broader trend of legal and legislative challenges to the company. Senator Josh Hawley is currently investigating Flock's network of 120,000 cameras, and Tempe, Arizona, recently terminated its contract and shut down its surveillance cameras.
