Rides in the two-seater Cybercab will be available to the general population starting Friday in select neighborhoods of Austin, Texas. The vehicle operates without a steering wheel or pedals, and the US auto safety agency is evaluating the deployment as the cars navigate the city's center. Tesla first offered access to 150 non-employee guests and 250 employees during a private launch event.

The Cybercab uses electric brakes with individual actuators on each caliper, removing the need for hydraulic fluid or plumbing. Its motor maintains a standard range while utilizing no rare earth metals. This current deployment covers a service area 10 times larger than the June 2025 debut of Tesla's Model Y robotaxi fleet, with wait times reported as shorter than those of the previous launch.
