GitHub Copilot Adds GPT-6 Astra in General Availability After Ahead-of-Schedule Rollout
Products26d agoMicrosoft said GPT-6 Astra is rolling out in Copilot Cowork and Copilot Studio, expanding model choice in those products. GitHub said the model is now generally available in GitHub Copilot, and Microsoft said Astra was available on day one across Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Foundry.
OpenAI said Astra rolled out ahead of schedule and that Plus, Pro and Business users would still receive a full banked reset that day. Sam Altman later said Astra was not the model OpenAI had paused over cybersecurity concerns, adding that the paused model is a future release even though Astra "did hit cyber-critical."
On computer-use tasks, Astra scored 92.7% on ScreenSpot-Pro versus 76.9% for GPT-5.6 Sol, 72.6% on OSWorld 2.0 versus 65.7%, and completed Mind2Web tasks 1.9x faster with an updated Codex harness. OpenAI also highlighted a Codex demo that built an explorable 3D Mysuru Palace with Blender and Three.js.
