The AI research firm is severing ties with the coding startup to prevent potential violations of its usage policies. The move follows SpaceX's acquisition of Cursor, which OpenAI says creates uncertainty about whether its terms of service will be honored. Direct access to models will terminate on November 12.
Developers can continue using OpenAI models in Cursor through their own API keys or the company's IDE extensions. OpenAI stated the decision boils down to trust but said it will continue to invest in open source initiatives to maintain optionality for developers.
