Howard Lutnick and Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael held a virtual meeting Tuesday with Anthropic executive Tom Brown to discuss artificial intelligence safety risks. Lutnick, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump, and Michael addressed the potential hazards of advanced frontier models during the engagement with the lab's Washington operations lead.

The dialogue follows President Donald Trump's public rejection of calls from industry leaders to slow the pace of AI development, citing the need to maintain a technological advantage over China. House Speaker Mike Johnson has also proposed summoning frontier AI companies to the White House to coordinate safety standards and balance national security with corporate responsibility.
