Splicing Hints into Reasoning Traces: Learning from Demonstrator Failures

SPLICE is an offline data generation workflow that uses a second model to edit a reasoning model's traces by verifying progress, truncating failed traces at their last verified step, and splicing in adaptively strengthened hints until progress resumes. The resulting dataset includes repaired examples where the original unaided trajectory failed, with failed continuations removed and progress repeatedly checked against a reference solution.
