Apple is asking a federal judge to expedite discovery in its trade-secret lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging a former engineer used a proprietary power-converter circuit schematic to train an AI agent. Forensic analysis of a MacBook provided by OpenAI on Aug 21 revealed former iPhone engineer Chang Liu downloaded confidential files after leaving Apple and used them in his work at the AI company, according to a new court filing.

Apple claims OpenAI is actively destroying crucial evidence, alleging Liu sent instructions to a colleague to delete files after learning of an internal investigation. OpenAI has called the lawsuit meritless and asked the court to dismiss the case.
