A gigawatt scale facility in Inner Mongolia will serve as the primary hub for DeepSeek's AI development using domestic Chinese hardware. The company plans to deploy at least 160,000 Huawei Ascend 950DT chips at the site, marking a massive expansion from the first publicly reported 10,000 chip cluster launched six months ago. This infrastructure is intended to power the inference of AI models and provides enough power at full utilization for roughly 750,000 homes.

DeepSeek continues to rely on Nvidia hardware for model training while utilizing the Huawei accelerators for running the models. Supply constraints for high bandwidth memory and other components may limit 950DT production to a few hundred thousand units this year. Consequently, Huawei could take more than a year to fulfill the complete order for the Inner Mongolia center.
