OpenAI's AI Breaks 50 Year Integer Multiplication Limit

marketbrief.now

OpenAI released 722 preprints on October 6 that reportedly solve long-standing mathematical problems, including a 50-year theoretical barrier for multiplying n-digit integers in time less than n log n and an improvement to the Fourier transform algorithm. The results include a proof of the Riemann hypothesis described by Oxford mathematician James Maynard as the best headline result in its field for a century, though some submissions were criticized as incomprehensible or containing errors. Former OpenAI researcher Scott Aaronson called the breakthroughs an "asteroid" hitting the mathematics world, and the model used may be available to regular subscribers within a few months.
