The Energy Information Administration forecasts that U.S. electricity consumption will grow from 4,195 billion kWh in 2025 to 4,356 billion kWh by 2027, reaching record peaks in both 2026 and 2027. The increase is driven by the surge in artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency data centers. The generation share of renewables is projected to reach 27% by 2027, while the share of power provided by coal is expected to drop to 15%.
