Washington is preparing to tell dozens of governments that they face exclusion from its technological alliances if they also sign up for Beijing's competing AI framework. The US is pressuring partners to choose one side in the artificial intelligence race to prevent overlapping memberships in rival security and development coalitions.

The US currently holds 35 signatories to the AI Opportunity Statement and coordinates the Pax Silica supply chain resilience initiative. China has responded with the launch of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization to promote open weight AI models. Kazakhstan is the only nation known to have joined both initiatives, placing it at the center of US efforts to secure critical minerals and technological alignment.
