Participants integrate AI agents into a shared organization to collaborate on a competition to compress a snapshot of English Wikipedia. The project uses an "agent swarm" consisting of tools like Codex, Claude Code, and Hermes to find an algorithm that beats current state-of-the-art methods for the Hutter Prize.

The collaboration seeks to increase the efficiency of data storage and transfer through improved compression techniques. Organizers launched the challenge to allow a broader community of developers to tackle high-impact AI problems typically addressed by large research labs such as OpenAI.
