Workers at Micron's Taiwan facilities showed 80% support for a strike in a preliminary survey as they push to replace the current bonus system with profit-sharing. Unions point to competitors Samsung and SK Hynix, which pay 10.5% and 10% of profits respectively, to justify their demands amid an AI driven memory chip boom.
Taiwan represents roughly 60% of Micron's global production capacity and the majority of its advanced high bandwidth memory output. Formal mediation talks must begin by mid September before an official strike vote can be held under Taiwan law.
