ByteDance and Tencent Receive 10,000 Nvidia H200 Chips Each, First Delivery After China Eases Limits
Chips44d agoLeading artificial intelligence firms in Asia are gaining access to restricted computing hardware to accelerate their domestic machine learning capabilities. ByteDance and Tencent each received about 10,000 H200 chips from Nvidia in recent weeks, marking the first shipments permitted under a shift in Beijing's regulatory approach. These deliveries are intended to help the country's top tech groups narrow the processing gap with US-based rivals.
The US government has cleared both companies to purchase as many as 100,000 processors each. Beijing has directed firms to maintain the majority of their H200 stocks—estimated at 500,000 units—in Hong Kong, although the city currently lacks the data center capacity to support the hardware's operation.
