The traditional desktop of folders and applications is replaced by a live visual environment in a new research project by Runway. Project Continuum is an operating system application that uses real-time video interfaces to manage computer interactions through four specific modes: Portals, Visual Thinking, Responsive Video Interfaces, and Interactive Worlds. The system utilizes Interface World Models, such as Solaris, to change the fundamental way users interact with their hardware.
The software is developed from the ground up to support video-centric environments rather than modifying existing operating system frameworks. Runway released the early preview to demonstrate how generative video models can function as the primary user interface for personal computing.
