OpenAI released a plugin on Thursday allowing ChatGPT on macOS to read, search, and send messages via the iMessage service. The tool, available for users of ChatGPT Work and Codex, enables the AI to analyze conversation history, draft replies and summarize threads directly from the desktop application.

The integration allows the AI to perform complex tasks such as cross-referencing calendars to schedule appointments via text. These capabilities to analyze personal message history represent a more powerful version of Siri that may trigger an intervention from Apple over user privacy violations.
