Mastercard Debuts AI Agent Payments to Enable Agentic Commerce

Mastercard has launched an early access program called Agent Pay for Machines, enabling autonomous software to settle costs for internet services using the x402 standard on the Base network. The system was developed after pilots with Coinbase, Base, and Cloudflare, with Coinbase providing infrastructure and a facilitator tool for the agents' payment capabilities.
