The firm's chief executive confirmed during a September 2 podcast that the AI developer will expand into physical robotics. Sam Altman said OpenAI will produce humanoid robots capable of opening doors and typing on computers, moving the company beyond purely digital assistants to a presence in the physical world.

The underlying brain that makes the machine work is the priority over the physical form factor, Altman stated, though the company will also build specialized robots for data centers. He described a long term vision where every person owns a personal robot to handle undesired tasks, adapting AI intelligence to a world specifically designed for humans.
