Fervo Energy signed a power purchase agreement to fuel Google's data center expansion using an enhanced geothermal plant in Utah. The contract provides for the delivery of 396 MW of electricity starting in 2028, with an option for Google to purchase an additional 600 MW to support the energy needs of its artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The project could become the world's largest enhanced geothermal facility and forms part of a 2024 framework targeting a 1 GW total. Google co-designed the contract to integrate new power onto the grid without increasing costs for ordinary retail customers, a strategy to avoid the regulatory disputes over electricity pricing now affecting data center operators in Georgia and California.
