A new federal mandate targeting the creation of autonomous superintelligence will be submitted to Congress by Bernie Sanders. The legislation, scheduled for filing next week, characterizes the technology as an existential threat to humanity and argues it should be regulated with the same severity as nuclear weapons to prevent a loss of human control. This effort seeks to establish binding international safety rules instead of relying on industry guidelines.

Sanders called on President Trump to negotiate a treaty with Chinese leader Xi Jinping at an AI summit scheduled for next week to halt advanced model development. He rejected the recent agreement between CEOs Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and Dario Amodei to slow the pace of AI, comparing that approach to easing off a gas pedal while racing toward a cliff. The senator urged the leaders to implement a total ban on superintelligence.
