House Speaker Mike Johnson has rejected a development moratorium on artificial intelligence to ensure the US does not lose its competitive edge to China. Johnson disclosed these views regarding a lunch meeting at the White House on Tuesday, Sept. 29, where President Trump and the Speaker will host executives from Meta, Anthropic, Nvidia, and OpenAI to discuss transparency and industry oversight. The Department of Justice may be assigned a role in oversight if industry developments "go awry," Johnson said. The scheduled talks involve Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who met privately with Trump during a dinner on Monday.
