The head of OpenAI will not appear before a US Senate committee on Oct 1 to provide testimony regarding the dangers of autonomous software. Senator Josh Hawley, R-Mo., described the absence of the chief executive as "unfortunate" but noted that the company would submit written responses to the committee's questions instead of participating in the live hearing.

The company previously stated it could not arrange for any of its executives to attend the session because of the short notice provided for the appearance. The upcoming session focuses specifically on the risks associated with rogue AI agents that may act independently of human oversight.
