The AI company is now allowing developers to alter the core behavior and layout of Claude Code using a system of TypeScript plugins. These additions, called "Mods," can be installed through the /plugin command in the desktop application or the command-line interface, and users can either write the code themselves or prompt Claude to generate the modules for them.

Anthropic designed the feature to treat software extensibility as a "first class citizen," reflecting a broader belief that modern applications are becoming increasingly malleable. The update enables users to replace standard Claude Code features with their own custom logic and preferences to create a personalized development environment.
