About 12,000 web domains related to the MAGA movement or artificial intelligence were traded or registered in the 60 days before the federal government shifted its terminology to "super intelligence." These .si domains, based in Slovenia, have since generated millions of dollars in turnover, with allegations that individuals in President Trump's inner circle profited from the acquisitions. Prior to July, 95% of .si domains were registered in languages other than English, but registration spiked following hints of the nomenclature change.
The activity coincides with an executive order requiring all federal agencies to use the terms "Super Intelligence" or "SI" and prohibiting the use of "Artificial Intelligence." Trump signed the order after meeting with tech leaders including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jensen Huang, during which he advocated for industry self-regulation over binding federal rules. He characterized the shift as necessary because AI is "not artificial" and described the technology as the largest development in human history, surpassing the impact of the internet.
