More than 100 employees from startup Poolside will join Nvidia to develop the Nemotron open weight model family. The chipmaker is paying $6 billion to license the startup's technology and investing $1 billion at a $12 billion pre money valuation.

The agreement aims to create a US based AI ecosystem to challenge Chinese models including Kimi and DeepSeek. Nvidia is betting that Nemotron can rival leading frontier models within one year, providing a lower cost, customizable alternative to closed systems from OpenAI and Anthropic.
