The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee sent letters to several tech firms seeking the terms of secret agreements they made with city and county officials. Rep. Jamie Raskin requested information from Amazon, Google, Meta and Oracle regarding non-disclosure agreements used to secure approvals for artificial intelligence data center projects, according to letters reviewed by the Wall Street Journal.
The inquiry is an attempt to increase oversight of the physical infrastructure required to power AI tools as lawmakers face voter backlash over these facilities. Raskin is targeting the agreements in the lead-up to the midterm elections to clarify how the projects affect local communities and government transparency.
