President Donald Trump said his administration already has sufficient criminal and regulatory power over AI companies, rejecting additional safeguards in a Truth Social post. “The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” he wrote.
Trump singled out Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, saying his administration had stopped AI figures from doing bad or potentially bad things and accusing Amodei of pretending to be a “perfect little angel.” Amodei has called for moderating the pace of advanced AI development so safeguards and the ability to understand and control the technology can keep up. Trump also alleged a “SICK conspiracy” against AI and data centers that he said benefited China.
The post followed Trump's rejection of calls to slow AI development, citing the need to maintain the US lead over China. House Speaker Mike Johnson also opposed a development moratorium but proposed bringing AI company leaders and lawmakers together at the White House to work out safety measures. House members have been circulating a letter urging Johnson to reconvene the chamber immediately and keep it in session until Congress
