President Donald Trump shared AI-generated videos on Truth Social depicting explosions at Iran's Kharg Island, claiming the site was "being blown to smithereens." The footage shows a tanker and oil storage tanks exploding, though there are no reports of an actual bombing at the facility.
The posts follow reciprocal military strikes in which the US targeted two Iranian mine-laying MLRS systems and Iran targeted US bases and infrastructure in Jordan. Kharg Island handles approximately 1.5 million barrels of crude per day, representing more than 90% of Iran's total crude exports. US oil prices extended gains after the posts.
