The owners of the AI routing startup OpenRouter finalized an agreement to sell the company to Stripe in a deal that leverages the startup's model marketplace. The purchase price is at least 5.4 times the $1.3 billion valuation OpenRouter recorded during its May funding round, occurring just 82 days prior to the acquisition. The company provides an API that allows developers to switch between more than 400 artificial intelligence models based on cost and performance.
Stripe currently powers the routing platform's billing and handles payment processing for a user base of 10 million global developers. The platform processes more than 200 trillion monthly tokens. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Stripe was in talks to buy OpenRouter for $10 billion.
