Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos joined other titans of the computing industry for a power lunch at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the future of AI safety. President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson hosted 31 participants, including the CEOs of Nvidia, Meta, Google, Microsoft, AMD, Broadcom, Anthropic and Palantir, as well as OpenAI President Greg Brockman. The group focused on coordinating an industry-led strategy to maintain American competitiveness against China, with Speaker Johnson advocating for voluntary guardrails to "calm the nerves" of safety critics.

The gathering comes as some experts warn that AI firms are failing to control autonomous agents, and Gary Marcus has criticized the exclusive focus on CEOs as "regulatory capture." While Johnson rejected a development moratorium, he noted that the Department of Justice may intervene if industry progress goes "awry." The meeting also featured Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, whose invitation followed a private dinner with Trump that resolved months of tension with the administration.
