US-based consumers can now sign up to use an artificial intelligence assistant that facilitates food delivery orders via text. DoorDash is opening a waitlist for this tool, which integrates into the messaging software of an iPhone to let users browse and buy meals without opening a separate app. A pilot of the service is already active with 20,000 users, moving the primary ordering interface away from the company's proprietary application.
The company also released a B2B API and a Model Context Protocol to enable third-party assistants, such as Slack bots, to execute bulk orders for offices. These updates aim to allow automated agents to manage procurement for entire workplaces. This expansion shifts the ordering experience from a centralized app to a variety of integrated digital environments.
